Before you read these words, we invite you to pause for a moment.
This poem was inspired by the everyday stories of resilience, courage, and hope that live in the heart of Cuenca. It reflects the strength of families who face hardship with dignity, the quiet determination of women who rebuild their lives, and the laughter of children who remind us that even in the most difficult moments, hope can still bloom.
Through our work at Hearts of Gold Foundation, we witness these stories every day—stories of struggle, but also of extraordinary love, solidarity, and transformation.
This poem is a tribute to the people of this beautiful Andean city, to the resilience of its communities, and to the belief that when we walk together, change becomes possible.
We hope these words touch your heart as deeply as the people who inspired them.

In Cuenca,
when dawn gently touches the rooftops,
there are hands already waking life.
Small hands, strong hands,
hands that never give up.
A grandmother bakes dreams in a warm oven,
a mother weaves the future with threads of hope,
a child runs barefoot,
but his laughter carries the world.
Here, not everything is easy.
There are long nights, silent sorrows,
stories of life broken into pieces.
But there are also hugs that heal,
gases that ignite,
and hearts that never stop loving.
Because in this Andean land,
where the river whispers ancient songs,
solidarity blooms like corn beneath the sun:
with patience, with care, with deep love.
The Hearts of Gold Foundation
doesn’t hand out roads,
it builds them alongside those who walk.
It doesn’t impose answers,
it listens and walks with you.
Here, change makes no noise,
yet it transforms everything.
You see it in eyes that shine again,
in dreams that dare to rise.
Cuenca is more than a city.
She is a mother, a song, a struggle.
She is living proof that
When love is true,
it holds the power to change everything.
